The italian brand, Thok, has finally come out with their first ever electric mountain bike in carbon fibre. 

It comes as a mullet mountain bike, which means that it has two different wheel sizes, and it comes powered by a strong Shimano EP8 electric bike motor and has an awesome 170mm of suspension travel in the rear. The Shimano EP8 motor is powered by a 630Wh battery, which is also removable, which is the same as another aluminium bike that Thok has, the Thok TK01. 

If you are looking to purchase this bike model you’ll be conflicted with two different options, the Fram and the Gram RC, with both models being available with sizes from small all the way up to an extra large. 

The design and geometry used in this bike caters more towards an enduro style of riding and offers an effective climbing position whilst still keeping a confident stance for the descents that you will embark on. 

Frame Technologies

When you first lay your eyes on this new electric carbon fibre bike you’ll immediately be attracted to its sleek design, which is helped achieved by having fully integrated cables throughout the build. Another thing to attract you to this bike is its awesome paint job, by Aldo Drudi who has custom painted helmets in the past for big names in MotoGP such as Valentino Rossi. 

In order for Thok to increase the rigidity in the suspension linkage, whilst still being able to minimise friction, the brand has designed their linkage bearings to be pressed directly into the carbon frame, without using any aluminium inserts. 

Another awesome feature that Thok has used in their design technology is what they call ‘T-Ribs’, which are basically two small braces that have been placed between the seat tube as well as the down tube, which is just above the bottom bracket area. The reason as to why Thok uses the T-Ribs technology is to improve the lateral rigidity within the frame, while still being able to dissipate the pressure and making pedalling more effective. 

Then moving onto the steering column of this bike we can see that Thok has used a T-Stopper, which is an integrated steering lock. What the steering lock does is it prevents the bikes handlebars from coming into physical contact with your carbon fibre frame, if you were to crash, and also saves all of the cables from being ripped out of place. 

One of the most eye-catching things that you’ll notice immediately when you look at the design of this bike is the T-Front shape, which also has the Thok brand’s signature ‘Viper Head Plus’ head tube junction paired with the oversized 1.8 inch sized head tube. What the T-Front does is it reduces the stress that your bike gets on its front end when you are riding over some rough terrain. 

Then as a cherry on top of the mixed-wheel Thok Gram frames design we see a SRAM Universal Derailleur Hanger dropout as well as an integrated rear mudguard to keep you protected from unwanted dirt. 

Thok Gram Geometry

When you look at the design of the Thok Gram’s frame you’ll also notice its enduro-style mountain bike geometry. This is thanks to its relatively steep 78-degree effective seat tube angle, which has been designed in this way in order to help you, as a rider, be as comfortable as possible, whilst still giving you that efficient climbing position for all those tough climbs. 

The bike is also designed with a 450mm chainstay, which you will have no matter what bike frame size you opt for, in order to keep the front end of your bike down on those steep uphills you’ll have to overcome. The bike also uses a 64-degree head angle as well as plenty of reach, which gives riders on this bike a lot of confidence for the downhills as well, truly showing that this is an all round awesome bike. 

Thok Gram Spec/Pricing

So to summarise, you’ll be able to get the Thok Gram in two different models, the Gram and then the Gram RC, which both further come in four sizes to choose from. No matter which size or model you choose to go with you’ll get their mullet setup, which includes a 27.5 inch rear wheel with a 29 inch wheel in the front of the bike. 

If you opt for the Thok Gram, the ‘entry-level’ option, then it’ll cost you 7,490 Euros, which is about $8,000, and has the exact same frame as you’d get on the RC model, the only difference you’ll see is that you will get cheaper componentry. 

Within the componentry, in the entry-level Thok Gram, you’ll receive a Fox 38 Rhythm fork and DPS shock to make up your suspension setup on the bike. Then moving on to the drivetrain components of this bike, which will be handling the bikes transmission, you’ll have a mix of both SRAM’s entry-level SX as well as NX Eagle components. Then finally to give  you the stopping power you’ll need on this beast you’ll have SRAM DB8 brakes that have been paired with a pair of 200mm SRAM HS2 rotors.

Then moving on to the flagship Gram RC model, which will be more expensive due to the premium componentry, you can expect to pay 9,900 Euros, which is about $10,600. Some of the top-of-the-range components include Fox Factory suspension, a SRAM GX Eagle AXS wireless drivetrain and then finally a pair of Shimano XT brakes, equipped with 203mm rotors. 

When you purchase any one of these models you’ll also receive the essential tools that you’ll require to set up the bike, like a shock pump, multi-tool and a spare UDH. you’ll also get a few miscellaneous items inside of a goodie box, such as a bottle, bottle cage as well as a few other items.
