Dark and Darker is based on the “extraction concept,” where players, similar to Escape from Tarkov, embark on raids, alone or in groups, to find weapons and other cool items and then must successfully escape with them.

It received very positive feedback in early game testing but clashed with the game publisher Nexon, who claimed that their former employees took files and other assets when they started working at Ironmace, the developer of Dark and Darker.

This led to the game being removed from Steam, but now it has appeared on a few other platforms and has finally been released in early access. The game’s new home is Chaf Games as well as its own website, where an early version can now be purchased for $35.

However, Ironmace emphasizes that this is an early version of the game lacking many features, including built-in voice chat. They have also added an in-game store, which they say is necessary to sustain an online game. They promise, though, that there will be no random loot boxes or time-limited items.
