We’ve come to expect superior quality from Apple’s products, and it’s iPad line is no exception. It’s not quite the personal computer that Apple’s Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook predicted last year, but it’s closer than it’s ever been.
Let’s start with the iPad Pro 10.5’s bigger, better screen. I mean, that’s 10 and a half inches of beautifully clear display with a 2224-by-1668 resolution at 264 pixels per inch, and the noticeably smaller bezels make it look even larger. It features True Tone display and a fingerprint resistant oleophobic and anti-reflective coating. The tablet is just over 6 millimeters (0.24 inch) thick and weighs barely over a pound. It comes in four colors – Space Gray, Rose Gold, Gold and Silver. You can learn more about its specs here.
Apple never cheats us on cameras either, but the iPad Pro’s 12 megapixel camera is truly something else. It has a 5x zooming capacity and produces pictures and videos are clearer than ever. It offers both auto focus and tap focus, has a timer mode and body and face detection.
The most improved upon, however, may be the new Pro’s power. Apple’s A10X Fusion chip, an updated GPU and 4GB of RAM makes the new iPad Pro 30 percent faster than its predecessor. Apple also says that graphics speed is 40 percent better than it was in the latest version of the tablet. The best part seems to be that it’s very hard to make it freeze or shut down, according to this reviewer.
The iPad Pro 10.5 will ship out with iOS 10.3, but iOS 11 is scheduled to be released this fall and promises a world of good for Apple – and its customers. According to Apple’s website, iOS 11 “… opens up both to amazing possibilities for augmented reality in games and apps”. We’ll just have to wait and see just how great it is when it is finally rolled out.
Of course, there are always downfalls, even with the iPad Pro. For starters, it will retail for $649 and up, depending on the version. We’ve come to expect higher prices from Apple, and their products are usually worth their price, but this is still a tablet that won’t be accessible to just anyone. Then there is the fact that iOS 11 isn’t out yet, which means we won’t know for a while how much it will elevate usability. And while not too shabby, the 10 hour battery life isn’t as long as what some other tablets can offer, but it’s a point I’m willing to overlook if the Pro 10.5 is really all they say it is.
